Two Indian seafarers have gone missing after a Nicaragua-flagged commercial vessel, 'MT Petro Dolphin', was struck by a drone off Sohar Anchorage in Oman. Union Minister for Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed the incident, stating that nine other Indian crew members aboard the vessel have been safely rescued. In an official statement shared on the social media platform X, Minister Sonowal stated that the tanker, carrying a total of 11 Indian seafarers, came under a drone strike on Sunday (October 11). While nine crew members were successfully brought to safety, local coast guard authorities immediately initiated search and rescue operations to locate the remaining two missing Indian nationals. The minister assured that Indian authorities are maintaining continuous contact with Omani agencies to provide full assistance and support ongoing efforts to safely locate the crew members. The Embassy of India in Muscat is closely monitoring the situation surrounding the vessel. In a statement on X, embassy officials affirmed that they are in constant coordination with Omani maritime and security authorities regarding the incident. The latest strike follows another recent maritime security incident in the region where a vessel with Indian crew members was targeted near the coast of Oman.
