07 Mar, 2026 03:15 PM

Indonesia has announced a new regulation that will prohibit children under the age of 16 from using social media platforms. The decision was confirmed on Friday by Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid. According to the minister, the government has signed an official regulation aimed at restricting access to social media for minors. Under the new rule, individuals younger than 16 will not be allowed to create or maintain accounts on several digital platforms considered to carry higher risks for young users. The restriction will apply to platforms such as YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox. As a result, children below the specified age limit will no longer be able to hold accounts on these services. Minister Hafid stated in a media briefing that the regulation has already been signed and is intended to address concerns related to the safety and well-being of young internet users.
