Italian Star Sinner Becomes First Since Federer to Achieve Sunshine Double
Italy’s Jannik Sinner secured the Miami Open title after defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in the final, completing the prestigious ‘Sunshine Double’. With this victory at the Miami Open, Sinner became the first male player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win both Indian Wells and Miami in the same season. Notably, the 24-year-old achieved this feat without dropping a single set across both tournaments, marking a historic milestone in men’s tennis. Earlier in the season, Sinner had claimed his maiden title at the Indian Wells, making this his first-ever Sunshine Double. He is now the eighth male player to accomplish this rare achievement. The elite list of players who have completed the Sunshine Double at least once includes Jim Courier (1991), Michael Chang (1992), Pete Sampras (1994), Marcelo Rios (1998), Andre Agassi (2001), Roger Federer (2005-06), and Novak Djokovic (2011, 2014-16). Speaking after his victory, Sinner described the achievement as remarkable. He said it was something he had never imagined accomplishing, given the difficulty of winning both tournaments in a single season, and expressed happiness at achieving the milestone.
