1. U-23 World Wrestling Championships: Vishwajeet More Claims Historic Silver in 55kg Category
India’s Vishwajeet More made history by winning the silver medal in the 55kg category at the U-23 World Wrestling Championships. He became the first Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to win a silver medal at the competition.
More, who had previously secured two bronze medals at the U-23 World Championships, came close to adding a gold medal to his achievements. However, he narrowly lost the final to Georgia’s Koba Karumidze by a score of 13-12.
The Indian wrestler began his campaign with a hard-fought 10-8 victory over Mexico’s Isaac Marin Mata. He then produced a strong performance in the quarterfinals, defeating Iran’s Armin Shamsipour 8-1.
More continued his impressive run in the semifinals, overcoming Russia’s Malik Gigiev 7-4 to secure his place in the title clash.
Although he missed out on gold by the narrowest of margins, More’s silver medal marked a significant milestone for Indian Greco-Roman wrestling at the U-23 World Championships.
