A tragic road accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district when two buses collided head-on along the Muzaffarpur-Sitamarhi National Highway (NH-22). The crash claimed the life of one bus driver and left nearly 50 passengers injured. The incident took place around 3 p.m. near Bedoul/Gopalpur under the jurisdiction of Aurai police station. The collision was so severe that one of the bus drivers was trapped inside the vehicle. Police, with the help of local residents, used a cutting machine to break open the damaged section of the bus in an attempt to rescue him. However, he had already succumbed to his injuries. The deceased was identified as Sujit Kumar, a resident of Sitamarhi. Authorities sent the body to Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) for postmortem. Meanwhile, around 50 passengers from both buses sustained injuries. Several were reported to be in critical condition and were referred to SKMCH for advanced treatment, while others received medical care at nearby health centers. Officials confirmed that most of the injured are now out of danger. The accident triggered panic at the site, with passengers crying out for help. Local villagers rushed to assist, rescuing those trapped inside the wrecked buses. Eyewitnesses stated that both buses were traveling at high speed when the collision occurred. The crash also caused significant disruption on NH-22, leading to long queues of vehicles along the highway. Police personnel from Aurai station arrived promptly, managed the situation, and arranged for the damaged buses to be removed from the road, restoring traffic flow. Aurai Police Station in-charge Sushil Kumar confirmed that the accident involved the “Girja Bus” and the “Snowver Bus.” He added, “Around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, a major collision occurred between the two buses. The driver of the Girja Bus died after being trapped inside the vehicle, and several passengers sustained injuries.” Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident. Officials stated that technical analysis will be conducted to assess the speed of both buses and other contributing factors.
