PM Modi Accuses TMC of Insulting Constitution After President Murmu Event Controversy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has strongly criticised the government in West Bengal, accusing it of disrespecting President Droupadi Murmu during her recent visit to the state. The Prime Minister said that the country and “Nari Shakti” would not forgive the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) for what he described as an insult to the President. Speaking on the issue from New Delhi, Modi said the incident in West Bengal was not merely an insult to the President but also an affront to the Constitution of India. He stated that arrogance, regardless of how powerful a person or party may be, ultimately leads to downfall. The Prime Minister further said that a party responsible for allegedly insulting a tribal woman who holds the country’s highest constitutional office would eventually face the consequences. He added that the people of West Bengal would not forgive the disrespect shown to the President. According to Modi, President Murmu had travelled to the state to attend a major Santhal community festival. However, instead of extending due respect to the President, the TMC allegedly boycotted the event. He also claimed that the state government allowed the programme to suffer from poor arrangements. Modi said the episode represented not only disrespect toward the President but also an insult to the Constitution, its spirit and the democratic traditions of the country. The controversy intensified after President Murmu expressed displeasure on Saturday over a change in the venue of her programme in West Bengal. She also noted that during her visit to North Bengal, neither the Chief Minister nor any minister from the state government came to receive her. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) described the development as an insult to the President.
