Diwali & Chhath Rush: Northern Railway Regularizes 42 Trains, Announces Thousands of Special Trips
In a major relief for passengers planning to travel home for the upcoming festive season, Northern Railway has announced plans to operate more than 6,200 special train trips to manage the heavy holiday passenger rush. This represents a significant 30 percent increase in special trips compared to last year's festive period, when the railway zone operated 4,666 trips.
As part of its comprehensive operational preparations, Northern Railway has regularized 42 new trains, which will collectively perform 2,600 trips during the festive rush. In addition to these regularized services, railway authorities had previously announced 3,600 special trips aimed at ensuring smooth, comfortable, and safe journeys for passengers across key sectors.
The expanded service network will connect major transit hubs such as Delhi and other key metropolitan areas to crucial destinations across the country. Key routes earmarked for these special services include the Delhi–Patna Vande Bharat Express, Shakur Basti–Darbhanga, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra–Varanasi, Chandigarh–Patna, Anand Vihar–Patliputra, New Delhi–Howrah, Kolkata–Yog Nagari Rishikesh, Amritsar–Barauni, New Delhi–Danapur, Delhi–Kamakhya, Delhi–Gaya, and Amritsar–Jaynagar routes.
The initiative aims to handle the immense surge in travel demand during the festive period, provide passengers with more flexible options, and reduce overcrowding on scheduled regular trains as millions travel to their hometowns and religious sites.
