Beijing University to Offer Punjabi Language, History, and Culture Courses
Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) has officially added Punjabi to its roster of foreign and Indian language courses, making it the 102nd language offered at the institution. Previously, the university taught 101 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Urdu. The language courses at BFSU primarily target Chinese students, diplomats, and government officials, aiming to develop expertise in foreign languages. To lead the Punjabi program, BFSU has appointed Dr. Zamirpal Kaur Sandhu, former professor and dean at Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. Dr. Sandhu stated that her role will extend beyond teaching the language; she will also instruct students on Punjab’s history and culture. In addition to teaching, Dr. Sandhu will train Chinese instructors to ensure they are capable of teaching Punjabi to future cohorts of Chinese students. This initiative is part of BFSU’s broader objective to strengthen cross-cultural understanding and linguistic proficiency among its students. The addition of Punjabi marks a significant step in promoting the language and cultural education on an international platform, offering students the opportunity to gain insights into Punjab’s rich heritage alongside language skills.
