09 Oct, 2026 02:36 PM

Parties associated with the INDIA bloc staged a protest in Yamunanagar against alleged vote theft and irregularities in the electoral process, calling for the protection of democracy, the Constitution and citizens’ voting rights.

The protesters gathered near Zimmedara Petrol Pump and Gaba Hospital before marching towards the Deputy Commissioner’s office. They later burnt an effigy of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar outside the office.

Workers from the Congress, the Communist Party of India (CPI), the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and other parties associated with the INDIA bloc participated in the demonstration. A large number of workers, including labourers and farmers, joined the protest under the leadership of CPI district secretary and advocate Harbhajan Singh Sandhu, Master Harichand, Ramkaran Sharma, Dharampal Tapparwal, Vijaypal Singh and Vipin Brar.

The demonstrators carried red flags and posters highlighting their demands as they took part in the protest march. They demanded Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation and called for an impartial investigation into allegations of vote deletion, vote theft and irregularities in the election process.

Speakers at the gathering said any interference with citizens’ right to vote was unacceptable in a democracy. They argued that questions raised over the electoral process must be addressed and accountability established wherever necessary.

Addressing the protesters, Harbhajan Singh Sandhu said the police action outside the Chief Election Commissioner’s office in Delhi was a matter of serious concern for the democratic system. He alleged that Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and INDIA bloc MPs had been stopped by the police from meeting the Chief Election Commissioner.

The protesters pledged to continue their struggle to safeguard democracy, the Constitution and the voting rights of citizens. They said the movement would continue until transparency and fairness in elections were ensured.
